Guardian News writes the UN released a report showing less consumption of meat is vital to save the world from climate change.

The United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) international panel of sustainable resource mamagement expects the world population to reach 9.1 billion by 2050. The UNEP says a diet moving away from animal products is necessary because those products cause climate change. The panel of experts with the UN said agriculture consumption is on par with fossil fuel consumption as both increase as economic growth rises.

The UNEP considered multiple studies including the Millennium ecosystem assessment. The panel released last year that food production will have to increase globally by 70% by 2050 to feed the growing population. Developing countries are expected to be the site of most population increases.
