Suggested Lead:  For a second year, your checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program is giving you the chance to become certified for free thanks to a partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) and the Beef Cattle Institute (BCI) housed at Kansas State University. Listen to this year’s BQA award winners talk about the importance of certification and the BQA program.

Keith York, Wisconsin

(0:00-0:39) “The Beef Quality Assurance program is a great tool that we use on our farm. We have all our employees certified. They go through the training that gives them the background of what we, as a dairy producer and a beef producer, expect of them. The care of our animals is the most important thing on this farm. We run this farm so that it will continue to the next generation. We want a sustainable farm which is good for the environment, is good for the cows and is good for the people who we produce a product for.”

Dell King, Kentucky

(0:40-1:17) “I’ve been involved in local, state and national work a long time, but BQA has been the most exciting that I’ve been involved with. Cattle marketing is about reputation and communications. I think that is very important. And we have really improved our product all over the industry. We’ve developed BQA where we have coordinators in most every state. And something important that comes out in the industry we can get to these people in the matter of a few hours. And everybody has been very determined to try to do what would help us get a better product to market and get a better price.”
