Northeast started 2014 by “Livin’ Lean. Lovin’ Beef”

The beef checkoff, through the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the regions 6th annual New Year’s themed seasonal beef promotion. This campaign launched in-stores on Jan. 9 and concluded March 29. Participating retail locations received on-pack promotional recipe labels to apply to fresh beef during the promotional period. Retailers also included promotional artwork on their websites and in their weekly ad circulars during the promotion. 

The checkoff’s 2014 “Livin’ Lean. Lovin’ Beef” New Year’s beef promotion drew 24,944 visits to www.LeanBeefSweepstakes.com for information about beef nutrition and beef recipes and a total of 22,514 sweepstakes entries were received.  The campaign ran in 132 Northeast regional supermarket locations, a 19 percent increase in retailer participation from 2013. Shoppers entering the promotion were invited to sign up for the checkoff’s “Beef So Simple” e-newsletter and 429 new shoppers accepted the invitation.

One grand prize winner was selected from each of the eight participating retail chains and was awarded a $100 grocery gift card. Consumers were asked several survey questions when entering the contest. Eighty-two percent of entrants said they would be likely or very likely to use the beef recipes provided on the label and promotional website and 87 percent said they would be likely or very likely to purchase and include beef as part of their healthy, active lifestyles as a result of participating in the New Year’s beef promotion.

Having been involved in beef promotion and education ages ago, before there was a mandatory checkoff, continuing through efforts to end it a few years ago (actually continuing to this day!!!) by some people, I really hope cattle producers and anyone reading this site will take some time to check out the links to see and learn about even a few activities the Beef Checkoff is funding in efforts to bring consumers up to date about modern beef. Also, the efforts to talk with consumers to learn what they want beef to do for them began way back even before I became interested, as a bride and young cattle rancher back in 1957. Many of the new ways to make new cuts of beef and the recipes to entice busy modern families to use beef today are being very well received by a broad array of people, from young single folks to senior citizens.
