A used large-equipment tire was turned into a durable, portable cattle feeder on the Thompson Creek Ranch of Ruby Valley, Nev. Four 8-foot railroad ties were bolted together, forming a square that serves as the base of the feeder. The tire was cut in half and attached to the top of the ties with spikes. Three-quarter-inch holes were drilled into the four corners to drain water. The holes are kept open by placing 7-inch-long conduit into the holes. The feeder can be pulled to different locations by attaching a chain to one corner.
