Opening feed bags can be easily accomplished with a device created by John James of Redfield, S.D. He welded five sickle sections together and mounted them on top of a small hopper bin. An auger in the bottom of the hopper bin carries the feed to a mixing chamber. Feed bags can be opened fast and safely by dropping them on the sickle blades. The bag opener eliminates the need for a pocket knife and the possibility of dropping the knife into the hopper bin.
