Melvin Glanzer of Delmont, S.D., built this rotating big-round bale spike to fit his 3-point hitch enabling him to unroll big balls for feed and bedding.

Mr. Glanzer built the 3-point hitch frame using 4-inch square tubing. Welding a 3-inch diameter center pipe through and three smaller 13-inch spikes onto a 14-inch disk pieced the spike assembly together. Between the spike assembly and the frame, Mr. Glanzer included a 9-inch sprocket. A small, orphan hydraulic motor (obscured in the photo) was attached to the carrier frame. By linking the motor and sprocket, Mr. Glanzer says he can easily rotate the bale forward and backward to unroll the hay.
