Yearling steers and heifers were the only classes to record gains last month, but lighter classes of cattle were steady to just slightly lower. Prices for steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds averaged $124.12 per hundredweight during September, a decline of just 24 cents per hundredweight. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds increased $1.95 per hundredweight to $112.71. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds decreased $1.04 per hundredweight to $112.88. Yearling heifers weighing more than 600 pounds averaged $102.28 per hundredweight, an increase of 45 cents per hundredweight during September.
