Prices for all classes of stocker and feeder cattle were $2 to $4 higher during August, according to Drovers’ 50-market auction summary. August prices for yearling steers were the highest of the year so far. Prices for steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds averaged $124.36 per hundredweight during August, an increase of $3.66 per hundredweight. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds increased $2.25 per hundred-weight to $110.75. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds rose $3.49 per hundredweight to $113.92. Yearling heifers weighing more than 600 pounds averaged $101.83 per hundredweight, an improvement of $2.20 per hundredweight during August.
