Yearling steers and heifers saw the greatest increase, with gains of 3 to 6 percent. Prices for steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds averaged $115.40 per hundredweight during May, an increase of 15 cents per hundredweight. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds increased $3.57 per hundredweight to $102.99. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds gained $1.98 per hundredweight to $103.38. Yearling heifers weighing more than 600 pounds averaged $91.95 per hundredweight, an increase of $5.59 per hundredweight during May.
