Strong buyer demand for grazing cattle and feedyard replacements pushed prices for all classes of cattle $2 to $3 higher, and May represents the fourth consecutive month for higher prices. Steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds saw average bids of $115.46 per hundredweight, an increase of $2.27. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds gained $2.96 per hundredweight to average $103.57. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds brought an average of $101.65, an increase of $2.87 per hundredweight. Yearling heifers weighing more than 600 pounds gained $2.88 to average $88.79 during May.
