Strong buyer demand for grazing cattle and feedyard replacements pushed prices for all classes of cattle $4 to $7 higher, and April represents the fourth consecutive month for higher prices. Steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds saw average bids of $113.29 per hundredweight, an increase of $4.33. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds gained $7.19 per hundredweight to average $100.61. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds brought an average of $98.78, an increase of $5.32 per hundredweight. Yearling heifers weighing more than 600 pounds gained $4.79, to average $85.91 during April.
