Stocker and feeder cattle prices saw bids $3 higher during the first month of 2010, according to Drovers’ exclusive 50-market auction summary. Buyer demand on both calves and yearlings was stronger for the third consecutive month. Improving feedyard margins during January supported prices on yearlings. Steer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds saw average bids of $110.70 per hundredweight, a gain of $3.24 from December. Yearling steers weighing 600 to 700 pounds improved $3.39 per hundredweight over December to average $92.95. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds gained $2.89 per hundredweight to average $95.28. Yearling heifers increased $3.37 per hundredweight to $84.20
