Stocker and feeder calf prices continued to increase during March according to Drovers 50-market auction summary. Steer calves 400 to 500 pounds averaged $111.09 per hundredweight, up $3. Steers, 600 to 700 pounds increased to $91.09 per hundredweight, also a $3 increase. Heifer calves weighing 400 to 500 pounds sold for $99.83 per hundredweight. Yearling heifers averaged $81.40 per hundredweight. Demand continues to grow stronger through early spring as cattle feeders have been profitable. Marketings are exceeding placements, corn prices are steady to lower and improving pen conditions are all supportive of stocker and feeder calf prices. Expect the bullish trend to taper off seasonally after mid-May.
