A top fast-food restaurant is changing the game with its new Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger launching June 24 and available nationwide within the next two weeks.
Wendy’s is betting its new premium burger with cheddar cheese sauce, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, smoky honey mustard on a toasted pretzel bun will separate the chain from its competitors this summer.
USA Today reports social media has raised interest in the product since Wendy’s started testing the burger in Sacramento, Cleveland and Miami. MSN reports the burger was one of the restaurant’s most successful limited-time products in 20 years.
Craig Bahner, Wendy's chief marketing officer, told the USA Today the burger is a combination of three of the nation’s most popular foods. "This is the ultimate mash-up of three American loves: pretzel, bacon and cheeseburger," Bahner says.
Wendy’s plans to sell the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger for a limited time over the summer, but the product could become a full-time addition if demand persists.
Innovative product offerings and the company’s recent emphasis on freshness have moved Wendy’s ahead of Burger King and McDonald’s in a survey of consumer preferences in food quality and flavor. A report by MSN shows data collected by food market researcher Technomic found almost 51 percent of Wendy’s consumers gave the food an excellent rating. The same survey shows only 44 percent of Burger Kings consumers and 37 percent of McDonald’s consumers rated their respective fast food’s products as “excellent.”
