Stocker/feeder markets lower for first time since September

Stocker and feeder cattle were $1 to $3 lower last week, the first time since September cash feeder markets were predominantly lower. Cash fed cattle traded $4 lower for the week.

Cattle Outlook: USDA says 2012 U.S. beef down 4.6 percent
USDA’s December World Ag Supply and Demand Estimates didn’t change U.S. corn production, but did increase predicted foreign corn production by 336 million bushels. USDA lowered their midpoint forecast of the marketing year average price of corn by 30 cents to $6.40 per bushel. They lowered their midpoint estimate of soybean meal price by $30 to $295 per ton.

Anthelmintic resistance in the U.S. cattle population was first identified in 2004 by the USDA. The 2009 National Animal Health Monitoring survey identified potential resistance in cattle in several states. Bovine Veterinarian will host a free webcast on Dec. 13, sponsored by Merck Animal Health. This webcast will educate to the paradigm and discuss the economic impact of parasites that have developed resistance to popular dewormers. Learn more. |
