Chuck Schroeder has been in the cowboy biz for a long time.  He grew up on a Southwestern Nebraska ranch, headed up the National Cattlemen's Beef Association during its formative stage and took the lead in reviving an ailing Cowboy Hall of Fame.  Actually his bio is quite a bit more complicated.  I asked him to talk about his 'checkered career' and it took a while to explain the long and winding road that led him to his new gig at the University of Nebraska's Rural Futures Institute.  His answer was a fascinating look at the history of cowboys and the cattle business over the past 30 years.

Listen to Chuck talk about his career.

I asked him about the family ranch.  He sold the dirt, kept the horses and he's now talking about six generations of horse people.

Listen to Chuck discuss his family ranch.

Chuck Schroeder's new challenge is the Rural Futures Institute, an organization that could play a huge part in the future of rural American.  He talked about why he wanted to take the reins at RFI and where he wants to go with it.

Listen to Chuck's plans for the Rural Futures Institute.
