Beef exports and sales rally to record highs

Weekly U.S. beef export sales hit a record year high moving from 11,000 metric tons to 17,700 MT last week. This 60 percent hike from the precious week set the total 44 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. The increase brought the 27-week average back up to 13,776 MT after a decrease in the previous week.

Japan took the lead in beef purchases with a 5,100 MT increase to 8,400 MT. Hong Kong and South Korea are also continual leaders with Hong Kong purchasing 3,800 MT (up 1,500 MT) and South Korea at 2,700 MT (up 1,300 MT). Other countries include Canada (1,300 MT) and Vietnam (500 MT).

After a slight drop in the previous week, shipments have increased by 16 percent. The 13,200 MT sets another year high and moves 13 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. This brings the 27-week average back to 13,317 MT.

The primary destination was to Japan with 4,200 MT. Hong Kong followed with 2,500 MT, Mexico (2,100 MT), South Korea (2,000 MT), and Canada (900 MT).
