Alan Newport has joined Vance Publishing Corporation as Editor of Drovers CattleNetwork. He will represent the brand at industry events and will work closely with managing editor John Maday and assistant editor Laura Mushrush to bring the most relevant and valuable beef industry news and topics to U.S. ranchers.

Drovers CattleNetwork’s print publication, e-newsletters and website serving the beef industry and business affiliates will reflect the direct feedback of the market. The brand is recognized as delivering sound business solutions with a focus on beef production and management, herd health, markets, operation management, and social issues impacting the industry. Newport also will oversee Vance Publishing’s new brand, Cow/Calf Producer, published quarterly.

“Alan will expand and solidify our leading position in the beef industry as we bring an exciting new dimension to the business,” said Vance Publishing Editorial Director for Agribusiness JoAnn Alumbaugh. “His experience and credibility in agriculture, specifically in the beef industry, will be extremely valuable as we enhance our position as America’s business source for cattle ranchers.”

Newport has a proven track record in agricultural journalism and the beef industry. Most recently, he was editor of Beef Producer magazine for Penton-Farm Progress and previously served as associate editor of Texas Farmer-Stockman and Oklahoma Farmer-Stockman magazines. He has a broad understanding of beef production in particular and agriculture in general. Newport hold a Bachelors of Science degree in agricultural communications from Oklahoma State University.

“We’re very excited to have Alan lead Drovers CattleNetwork and Cow/Calf Producer to new levels of success, and give ranchers and producers the tools to help them be profitable in an ever-changing marketplace,” Alumbaugh said.
