The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking nominations for the next term of the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Animal Health (“Committee”) to serve 2015 – 2017. Nomination packages—an Application for Committee Membership (AD-755) and resume—must be submitted by Jan. 20 to be considered.

This Committee will advise the Secretary of Agriculture on strategies, policies, and programs that prevent, control, or eradicate animal diseases. The Committee considers agricultural initiatives of national scope and significance and advises on matters of public health, conservation of national resources, stability of livestock economies, livestock disease management and traceability strategies, prioritizing animal health imperatives, and other related aspects of agriculture.

Twenty members will be appointed to the Committee for 2-year terms to represent a broad range of farmers, ranchers, scientists, trade associations, universities, Tribal and State Animal Health Officials, and other groups within agriculture. The terms of the current Committee members expire in May 2015. Newly appointed members will meet sometime during FY2016. The USDA reimburses members for all costs associated with official Committee travel. The time commitment will vary depending on the particular topics and areas of animal health that may be explored. For more information regarding the Committee, past meetings, records, and more, please visit the SACAH Website.

To ensure that Committee recommendations take into account the needs of the diverse groups served by the USDA (from research and production to trade, markets, use, and consumption), the USDA will vet all candidates applying for membership. Diversity objectives will be considered—geographic, points-of-view, and otherwise—in order to achieve a balance of perspectives. Applicants must clear all stages of the vetting process which begins with a comprehensive review of personal and professional backgrounds, affiliations and associations, lobbyist status, prior involvement with USDA, and service on other federal boards or advisory committees.

Please submit full nomination packages with completed AD 755 background information forms and resumes no later than January 20, 2015. Final selection of members will be made by the Secretary from nominations submitted. All nomination materials should be mailed in a single, complete package to:
