Beef export sales more than doubled the previous week’s total last week, increasing by 10,983 metric tons to 19,972 MT. Last week’s spike moved sales totals above the 10-week average, and only 446 metric tons below the 10-week high. Sales were primarily to Hong Kong, purchasing 5,600 MT, followed by Mexico (4,700 MT), South Korea (4,000 MT), Canada (2,100 MT), and Japan (1,900 MT).
Export shipments fell four percent from the previous week, however the two previous weeks of gains help move the four-week average seven percent higher than the previous figure. Shipments declined 592 metric tons last week, totaling 15,229 MT. Most of last week’s beef shipments were sent to Japan, receiving 4,800 MT. Others receiving shipments included Hong Kong (2,900 MT), Canada (2,400 MT), Mexico (2,300 MT), and South Korea (1,500 MT).
