A California-based Hispanic grocery chain Mi Pueblo Food Centers is requiring customer engagement training for it's meat department in an effort to "immerse employees in the 'plaza concept' sin the hopes they will engage with customers and offer a more interactive customer experience — the same personalized attention and service they would get in a mercado in Mexico," reported Supermarket News.

The "plaza concept" is highly used in Mexico and allows food vendors to attract customers by annoucning specials and other offerings, Mi Pueblo told Supermarket News. This training is in a response to beef prices rising and customers turning to other meats like pork and chicken.
