On Wednesday, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced his plans to host a summit to discuss ways to expand Missouri’s cattle industry.
Industry stakeholders will attend the Jan. 5 meeting at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Speakers will include University of Missouri cattle genetics experts, national beef packers and cattlemen, the Associated Press reported.
The Missouri governor’s office released a statement saying that although Missouri is ranked second for the number of beef cattle it produces, 95 percent of the state’s cattle are finished and processed in other states.
