Fall around weaning time is a good time to body condition score your cows to help determine which cows are culled, and possibly sort them in to groups to better manage their nutritional needs over the late fall and winter months.

Lyssa Seefeldt, UW Extension Ag Agent in Marquette County, and Katie Pfeiffer, former UW Extension Ag Agent in Sauk County, developed a fact sheet, or  “cheat sheet” I have heard if referred to, with a lot of pictures to help producers body condition score their cows.  The sheet serves as a good resource to help folks keep their ratings consistent, and provides good information on when to score cow and where to pay close attention for accurate scoring.
