Members will review bills proposed by the Kansas Legislature during the February 18 KLA Legislative Meeting and Dinner at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka. Broad member input is needed to help KLA take solid positions on legislation covering property taxes on ag land, water allocation and private property rights for landowners above natural gas storage fields.
The day will start at 11:30 a.m. with a complimentary lunch, sponsored by Capital City Bank. U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts will be the guest speaker at lunch. As chairman of the U.S. Senate Ag Committee, Roberts will outline plans for upcoming hearings related to livestock industry issues.
KLA staff will begin reviewing bills at 1:00 p.m. and conclude by 3:00 p.m. A social for KLA members, legislators and special guests will be held at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is $30 per person for KLA members. Because February 18 is Ash Wednesday, members should indicate whether they prefer a beef meal or a Lenten alternative. To register for the meeting, click here.
Room reservations can be made at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. The phone number is (800) 579-7937. Be sure to tell the hotel you’re with KLA.
