A calf in Ireland may soon take the title of world's smallest cow.
Shorty is the granddaughter of the cow Ella, who at 78 inches was for many years considered the world's shortest before the arrival of the cow Manikyam, a 61.5cm cow in Kerala, India.
Shorty was born to the cow Ruby on Friday, weighing only 18kg at birth. "She is the smallest calf I have ever seen," owner James Vance reported to Paddy Clancy of the Irish Examiner. Though they will not know for three years when she is fully grown, the Vance's are confident that she could be named the world's smallest cow. Until then, she has been adopted as a pet by the Vance's four-year-old son, Nathan.
