The University of California, Davis, ranked number 2 for agriculture and forestry in the annual QS World University Rankings released this week, behind Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

British firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is widely considered to be one of the most influential international university rankings providers.

QS rankings are based on reputational surveys and research citations. This year, QS evaluated 4,226 universities, qualifying 2,691 and ranking 945 institutions.

Several other U.S. universities rank highly on the list. Cornell came in at number 3 this year, followed by the University of California, Berkley at number 4 and the University of Wisconsin at number 5.

Michigan State University, Purdue University and Iowa State University rounded out the top 10 at numbers 8, 9 and 10 respectively.

The top 25 in the QS rankings include the University of Illinois at 13, Oregon State University at 14, Penn State University at 15, Texas A&M University at 19, University of Florida at 21, North Carolina State University at 23 and Yale University at 25.
