DreamDirt Farm and Ranch Real Estate and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation will conduct an online benefit auction for wildfire relief Friday, April 7, beginning at 10 a.m.
“We couldn’t stand by and not do something,” says Jason Smith, DreamDirt. “We approached the good folks at the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association with our idea to give Midwesterners a way to donate to the relief efforts and they were on board from the first contact and have worked with us to get this up and running.”
Matt Deppe, CEO of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, says members “are eager to help brethren cattlemen and women recover from these devastating fires.”
Although the webcast auction begins Friday, pre-bids and max bids may be placed at any time prior. When the auction starts you will be able to see video and hear the auctioneer call the auction. All bidding will start at the current highest bid.
As of Tuesday, 48 consignments have been made to the auction. One of the consignments is Nichols Extra D212, a yearling bull sired by KCF Bennett Southside from Nichols Farms, Bridgewater, Iowa.
“We decided we would contribute what we do best,” says Dave Nichols. “I’ve spent over 60 years of my life breeding beef cattle that are better than their parents. We are offering a young bull that’s out of our top priced yearlings. He’s the latest in a long line of Nichols born and bred sires. His dam is a direct descendant of ‘the best cow that ever ate grass,’ Nichols Lula P103.”
Every penny of the bull’s sale price will go through the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation, Nichols says.
DreamDirt says additional items will be added to the auction as they are consigned. To donate items, call 855-376-3478.
