There was some recovery in October cow prices after the September price debacle, and overall cow prices remained significantly higher than they were one year ago.
Slaughter cows were down $12 to $13 per hundredweight from September.
Open cows recovered a lot from the September price slide. Heiferettes gained the least at about $7 per hundredweight, and middle-aged cows gained about $30 per hundredweight.
Pairs stayed about where they were in September, and only cows with big calves at side gained significantly.
Bred cows staged a comeback across all ages by $90 to $230, depending on age category.
