From the October issue of Drovers CattleNetwork.

Cow markets softened again last month with the falling of the fed-cattle markets. Still, they remained a little better than they were this time last year, with the exception of slaughter cow prices.

Drovers CattleNetwork statistician Carolyn Dvorak noted, “Lower prices were found in every category except aged, bred females where the prices were basically even -- $1,439.25 for September compared with $1,439.17 for August. Utility and commercial cow prices were below $100.00 for the first time this year at $95.96.”

Despite the peel-back from recent market-topping female prices, the relative strength in September cow pricing suggests there is still an emphasis on herd expansion.
