The decrease in fuel prices has been helping boost profits for cattle ranchers. Low fuel prices also help make up for low grain prices.
Livestock producers are benefitting from fuel prices that are almost $1 lower than last year. The fuel helps farmers and ranchers transport their livestock and grains for less money and it helps feed their animals in the winter as it powers tractors that harvest hay, Roxana Hegeman reported for the Associated Press.
Consumers won't see the difference at the supermarket, however, as transportation costs are only a small portion of retail prices. It also takes months for farm cost savings to affect store prices.
