Ground beef prices keep setting records. Now, prices have blown through another record with the average price per pound of ground beef reaching $4.235 in January in the U.S., accoring to information released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Last August, for the first time, the average price of ground beef climbed over $4 at $4.013 per pound. The next month, the average price of ground beef reached $4.096. By October, prices hit $4.154 per pound. In November, prices hit $4.201 a pound, but in December prices decreased to $4.156 per pound only to jump to a new record a month later, CNSNews' Ali Meyer reported.

In January 2010, the average price of ground beef was only $2.279, according to the BLS. Prices have increased 85.8 percent in the last five years. In January 2014, the price per pound of ground beef was $3.467. Prices have increased 22.2 percent since that time last year.

The price of ground beef may be climbing, but the Consumer Price Index for the good is dropping.
