The 5-Area Accumulated Average Cattle Price continues to slightly increase, reaching $133.67 per hundredweight.
The panel of cattle industry experts who make up our Monday Market Sentiment were pretty close with a prediction of $132.51 per hundredweight. This week, they slightly increased their estimation to $133.29 per hundredweight.
Choice boxed beef saw falls throughout the week, starting Jan. 19 at $229.93 per hundredweight, and ending Jan. 25 on $223.79 per hundredweight. The drop moved the 27-day average to $217.13 per hundredweight.
Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Scott Keeling of Keeling Feeders.
