Our panel of cattle industry experts who make up the Monday Market Sentiment guessed a little high with an average guess of $137.69 per hundredweight. This week, the panel projects the 5-Area price to increase to $137.10.
Choice boxed beef increased slightly throughout this week, starting off on October 20 at $215.38 per hundredweight and moving to $217.06 per hundredweight by October 26. The 27-day average price now rests at $212.02.
Choice primal rib jumped during the week. Last week, primal rib kicked off October 20 at $321.96 per hundredweight and ended October 26 at $331.80 per hundredweight. The largest increase occurred between Wednesday October 21 and Thursday October 22 with a $5.54 jump.
Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Shelby Jones, Ranger Feeders.
