This week the 5-Area Accumulated Average Cattle Price continues downward, falling to $116.65.

Our panel of cattle industry experts who make up the Monday Market Sentiment were a little high with an average guess of $117.87 per hundredweight. This week, the panel is hoping for a Christmas miracle, expecting the 5-Area price to jump to $120.22.

Choice boxed beef fell throughout the week, starting off on December 15 at $197.21 per hundredweight and dropping to $191.28 per hundredweight by December 21. The 27-day average price now rests at $202.91.

Choice primal rib took a sharp fall during the week. Last week, primal rib kicked off December 15 at $352.57 per hundredweight and ended December 21 at $335.98 per hundredweight. The largest drop occurred over the weekend when prices fell $14.68

Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was John Butler, BMG.
