Our panel of cattle industry experts who make up the Monday Market Sentiment guessed a tad high with $149.17 per hundredweight. This week, the panel projects the 5-Area price to continue falling to $146.69 per hundredweight.
Choice boxed beef saw a slight drop fall this week, starting off on July 15 at $234.94 per hundredweight and dropping to $233.32 per hundredweight by July 21. The fall moved the 27-day average to $245.45 per hundredweight.
Choice primal rib climbed up this week despite a small fall from Monday to Tuesday. Last week, primal rib kicked off July 15 at $319.97 per hundredweight and ended July 21at $324.20 per hundredweight. The price movement set the 27-day average to $343.75 per hundredweight.
Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Joe Kovanda, Bartlett Cattle.
