Choice boxed beef dropped slightly this week, starting off on July 21 at $233.32 per hundredweight and dropping to $232.37 per hundredweight by July 27. The largest fall was from Thursday to Friday when prices changed from $232.59 to $230.70. The fall moved the 27-day average to $243.07.

Choice primal rib also saw a drop. Last week, primal rib kicked off July at 324.20 per hundredweight and ended July 27 at $323.01 per hundredweight. The price movement set the 27-day average to $339.06 per hundredweight.

Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Joe Morgan, Poky Feeders.
