Our panel of cattle industry experts who make up the Monday Market Sentiment guessed a little low with an average guess of $128.82 per hundredweight. This week, the panel projects the 5-Area price to increase to $137.69.
Choice boxed beef dropped slightly throughout this week, starting off on October 13 at $208.46 per hundredweight and moving to $213.64 per hundredweight by October 19. The 27-day average price now rests at $215.17.
Choice primal rib increased during the week. Last week, primal rib kicked off October 13 at $310.35 per hundredweight and ended October 19 at $313.43 per hundredweight.
Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Merck Animal Health, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Shelby Jones, Ranger Feeders.
