The 5-area cash cattle market continued to fall for the third week hitting $159.41 last week, down from $159.55 the previous week.

Our panel of cattle industry experts predicted the drop, however overestimated the drop with an estimation of $157.65. This week, experts predict the 5-area cash cattle price to hit $159.07.

Choice boxed beef prices are down $3.96 from last Wednesday. On Tuesday, Feb. 3, prices were at $244.07. The 27-day average landed at $252.53.

Choice primal rib saw another volatile week, ending Feb. 3 at $322.28 after seeing $329.86 the previous Wednesday. The 27-day average is $335.08.

Each week the Cattle Trader Center, on behalf of Vance Publishing, awards a $100 gift certificate from Cabela's to the industry leader whose forecast comes closest to the 5-Area cash trade number reported by the USDA. The most recent winner was Marshall Jensen, Snake River.
