Retail beef prices proved to mixed in December with some cuts making small gains and others seeing small drops.
Steak round not classified as choice or prime saw the largest price increase during December, gaining 22 cents and hitting $6.16. Prices have been increasing pretty steadily since January 2014. The 27-month average is $5.20.
Choice boneless chuck roast saw a fair gain, seeing a 16 cent gain in December. Prices hit $5.68 in December. The 27-month average hit $4.82 in December.
Choice boneless sirloin steak saw the largest price drop, falling 13 cents in December down to $8.15.
