The price of hay is down another $5 in December in the U.S., continuing its downward slide. Since September, hay prices have fallen from $176 to $159. The 27-month average for U.S. hay prices is $184, while the average for the year is only $178.75.
While states like Arizona and Utah saw no change in hay prices from November to December, others have seen large gains. Pennsylvania saw a $13 increase in hay prices in December and Kentucky saw prices increase $8.
Other states didn't fare so well. Idaho experienced a $19 drop in hay prices in December, after seeing a dramatic increase in prices in November. In New York, hay prices fell $14 to $137 from $151 in November.
