Bayer Animal Health, based in Shawnee, Kan., has awarded $50,000 to the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute Inc. for its Kansas City Science Initiative, which has developed an interactive science curriculum.

The materials created by the Institute are used in 40 schools around the Kansas City area by about 17,000 students. With the gift, the Institute is expected to double the number of participants, both students and teachers, reached through the initiative.

Bayer Animal Health and Bayer CropScience helped establish the program in 2006 with a $150,000 grant, the Institute generated an additional $1.8 million to keep the program running.
