The Food Ethics Council and conservation charity WWF-UK say the current efforts by the farm industry are not enough to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from livestock as reported by Farmers Weekly Interactive.

Both groups in the U.K. suggest 27 ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions including higher taxes on products that produce higher emissions and a decrease in the amount of livestock produced each year. They also encourage consumers decrease demand by changing their diet to eat less meat.

The Royal Agricultural Society of England has commissioned a report that counters the critics who want to limit the livestock industry. The Society says improved farming techniques would allow consumers to keep their current diet while decreasing the livestock’s environmental impact.
