Live cattle futures closed with triple digit gains on Friday, allowing October to close positive for the week.  The recovery from the gap lower to start the week is very encouraging. Northern cash reached as high as $147 late Friday, with southern trade stagnant late on Friday. Bids in the south had reached $146 with no takers to our knowledge. We have heard reports of grid cattle being pulled forward to fill kill needs for this week.

Feeder cattle futures closed firmer on Friday but remained modestly lower for the week. The cash index dropped to 209.85 and was down 5.40 for the week. Corn was off 2.5 cents for the week and is trading 2-3 cents lower overnight. The September feeders are still discount 7.45 to the index. Outside markets are mixed, with the Dollar and equities lower in early morning trade.
