Farmers in the Northern Plains have been struggling with drought, making it difficult and expensive to scrounge up enough feed for their livestock to last through the winter.
When farmers and ranchers were in need of hay this spring after the wildfires, semi-trailers arrived with dozens of bales of hay. The same scene is playing out again as bales are being driven to the barren state from as far away as Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin.
Cliff Naylor, a reporter from AgDay affiliate KFYR, talks to the Meschke family live near Amidon, North Dakota in the northwest corner of the state, where the drought inflicted the most damage.
